Day 19- Legs and Back

David says it's day 19, so I'll trust him. Let me start by letting anyone who reads this know that I'm terrible at keeping up with blogs. So, don't be surprised if I miss a few days or even a week. I will really try to maintain, but I make no guarantees.

The people most likely to read this, at least at first, already know a little bit about me. But just in case... I am a somewhat newlywed, married February 14 (my parents' anniversary) to David. I'm 26, I grew up lower to mid-middle class, depending on the times. I do have a college degree in English, though I'm not a stickler for proper grammar on something like this.

David and I started P90X just under 3 weeks ago. I'll be honest, I'm not much for working out. I've had a decent metabolism my whole life and would rather bury my nose in a book than do a push-up. I always received the Presidential Fitness Award in school, but after my last mandatory year of gym in 9th grade, I didn't worry so much about fitness. David and I spent the last year in Wisconsin, where I put on between 15-20 lbs. I'm not overweight, and I was barely pushing the heavy side of normal, but I wasn't happy with my figure. David has struggled with his weight all his life and he was very excited/passionate about trying P90X. I wasn't so convinced, although I knew I needed to make some changes. I've promised David that I'll give it the 90 days before I make a decision on sticking with it or trying something else.

So far, this hasn't been exactly easy. My favorite days are arms/shoulders and yoga. I have a hard time with all the moving in the first half of yoga, but I love the balance yoga positions. I have noticed some significant changes in my body, particularly the loss of a little over 7 lbs. I spent all but two workout days of the second week with a nasty cold that kept me in bed. So, having missed that time, I think I'm doing pretty well. I'm a little worried about losing weight from certain areas and not others, but all I can do is my best. The diet is actually a lot more difficult than the exercise. I love junk food. I love chocolate and carbs. Pre-P90X, I didn't eat much meat. I'm not a vegetarian, but I just don't care for beef often. I've never liked pork and while I like chicken, I prefer a little breading and some baked chicken over something grilled. So on this diet, I try to eat some eggs for the protein. David got me some chocolate milk to have instead of a protein shake and while I love it, I still miss other chocolates. I have a hard time thinking that if I follow this diet strictly, I won't ever have another Snickers bar. =) My goal is to follow the diet as well as possible, but not to worry if I have an extra 1/2 carb or a little bit extra fat once in awhile. And I will probably break down at some point and indulge in something not on the diet, although I'm doing okay so far. We also plan to have children someday in the future, and although the recommended diet is similar to that of P90X, it's not the same. So, that will be interesting once we get there. We're not trying yet. I have a lot of stomach problems and I'm hoping the diet will help alleviate some of those.

So, I guess I typed more than I thought I would and I really just talked generalizations, not specifics. But there's my background. I'll let you stop reading, if you've gotten this far and I'll try to write more tomorrow.

  1. So glad to see you're blogging Nikki! You and David are doing great and you're right, the diet is the hardest part. You'll do fine I'm sure, and it sounds like you're already getting awesome results! Keep up the great work!
